During the Baroque period of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a series of historical, economic and social events in Europe lead to a transformation of the Renaissance world. Wars between the hegemonic states of Europe, the power of the Pope, the new religious currents that grew out of the Reformation, the discovery of the Americas, and the advances in science and philosophy gave birth to Baroque culture.

The primary objective of the ambitious Proyecto Andalucía Barroca 2007 is to demonstrate the tremendous cultural importance of this period, with exhibitions such as Teatro de Grandezas, which illustrates the splendour of Baroque Seville.
